Sitecore Experience Manager (XM) is a CMS-only version of Sitecore Experience Platform (XP). Businesses can use XM to create, manage, and publish content to their websites and enjoy Sitecore’s ability to efficiently run a multilingual website or a network of websites.

The features of XP that are NOT included in Sitecore XM (as of August 2021) are: Experience Explorer, Campaign Creator, Commerce Connect, Personalization, Content testing, Email Experience Manager, Experience Analytics, Experience Profile, List Manager, Path Analyzer, Segmentation, Federated Experience Manager, and Marketing Automation.

What is Sitecore Experience Manager used for?

Sitecore XM can be a good option for a content-driven business that needs a comprehensive set of content management tools but is not planning to use Sitecore’s marketing automation or content personalization capabilities. If this changes in the future, the functionality can be extended simply by purchasing the necessary Sitecore products.

It is important to note, however, that Sitecore XM preserves one of Sitecore’s handiest features—integration with many third-party systems—which means it can become part of a complex solution for managing multiple business processes. In particular, XM can be integrated with e-commerce software, social media tools, search and translation engines, CRMs, ERPs, and order management systems.
